Apply for a HOOTS Grant

Each year HOOTS awards scholarships to help defray the costs of education for the dependents of Facilities Engineering and Planning (FE&P), Housing and Dining (H&D), Parking and Transportation and Rice University Police Department (RUPD) who are registered full-time students at either Rice University, Trinity University or Austin College. Applications for new, incoming freshmen or transfer students, are due on May 1 before the student’s first semester at any of the three schools.  The applications are available online at this location. Eligibility for the HOOTS Scholarship requires:

• Applicants be a dependent of an employee in the Rice University Departments of FE&P, H&D, Parking and Transportation or RUPD.
• A completed application
• Applicants must provide proof of enrollment and either Rice University, Trinity University or Austin College
• A photograph of the applicant should accompany the application – photos of both the applicant with their parent (who works at Rice) are encouraged

Recipients are encouraged to attend the HOOTS Annual Meeting, usually held each October.  If the recipient cannot attend in-person, send a brief letter or short video clip.  The HOOTS members always like to hear from the scholarship recipients. Recipients are also welcome at all HOOTS events, including tailgates.
